Documentary Reflection Questions

1.  A scene that really got to me was the moment when the vigilante group was stopped by Mexican military officials and was told to hand over their weapons.  They were going to give in to the demands, and then the people of the village broke out in outrage.  They demanded that the weapons be returned and for the military to leave.  This was eye opening because it showed how little the Mexican people trust their own government to protect them.  It also showed how if enough people band together for a common purpose, they can accomplish the unthinkable. 2.  What surprised me was the sad ending to the vigilantes.  When their leader was injured the whole organization fell apart.  They raided homes, and cartels put on their uniforms and committed atrocities around the area.  They fell apart and became the thing they were trying to end. 3.  My questions that linger with me are, what other vigilante groups are popping up around Mexico and did they have any better success?  After the film I

Mentors

Mentors are some of the most important people in our lives.  Weather they are your parents, teachers, coaches, or martial arts teachers, they are the people who teach us how to live.  They guide you through the beginning of your lives and their messages will live with you for many years to come.  I still remember what many of my coaches have said to the team before a big game or after a tough practice.  They taught me perseverance, self control, and hard work, which I carry with me today and will for the rest of my life.  Teachers have taught me most of the of the information that I carry with me.  They have taught me to be efficient and accountable with my work and prepared me for college.  Most importantly, I have learned almost everything from my parents and would not be the same person I am today without them.  I have learned manners, hard work, accountability, thriftiness, and responsibility from my parents.  Nothing can replace what I have learned from them with anything else.  T

Memories of a swim meet

Recently I attended my younger brother's swim meet.  Seeing my brother do so many of the same things I used to do, makes me long for those days past.  Being a part of a team of athletes working to a single goal, winning and then the celebration of winning.  The working to make yourself better every day and coming home exhausted after a hard workout.  Working to decrease the amount of time it takes you to do a 50m freestyle sprint.  It makes me wish I could still be doing something like that.  These things that my brother is doing will remind me of how much fun it was to be a part of a team.  It will also remind me of all the great people I met along the way  Sports were the places I had the most fun in high school and grade school.  College is different and I hope to find something like that here at Lewis.
