The Breath of Fresh Air

The weather outside seems to finally look like spring after a long spring, filled with snow.  I always hear that Chicago weather is crazy and this spring would be the perfect example for that statement;  Snow, then rain, then thunderstorms, then more snow, then a hot summer-like day like today.  Finally it looks like there is no snow on the horizon, making me thing of wearing shorts and letting the sun touch my skin again.  The plants and animals are coming up and now scurrying about through the window on my left and are joyful that the world is finally warming up here again.  Another nice thing is driving to school with the windows rolled down and breathing in the fresh air.  It might also be nice to go camping of go on morning runs again to get in touch with nature once again now that the weather is nicer.

The World Today From My Point of View

Much has happened in the past few months that I have never really gotten to put into my own words yet, so what about here.  First of all Syrian gas attacks against their own people occurred and killed many.  This is a crime against all of humanity and must not be allowed to continue.  Any leader who thinks it is alright to randomly kill innocents with chemical weapons has no reason to be in power.  Someone like that should be executed for thinking that killing innocents is okay.  In response, the U.S. and friends launch missiles into Syrian targets that would cripple their chemical weapons production and storage.  A fitting response which should keep Syria from doing something like that again for awhile, but for only awhile.  If there is to be real change in the area, something needs to be done about their leadership.  Possibly answering for their crimes, just a thought.  Another huge thing happening very recently is that North Korea is finally talking to the U.S. and South Korea.  Due

A Fun But Unpopular Pastime

Around the start of my high my family and their friends introduced me to a little game called Dungeons and Dragons.  In the beginning I was skeptical and I did not know what I was doing and then they told me that I had to create a character.  I chose to create a barbarian, which looking back was not a good idea to start with because of all the responsibility that class entailed, not to mention the math for all the attacks I would be doing.  I was the powerhouse of the party playing a key role in battles, but had little skill for much else making the experience a little less than it could have been.  In my next story I played a dwarf spell sword maned Geoffrey.  I had a bunch of neat skills, such as convincing people to give up information they might not otherwise share and teleportation.  It was my first real go at a character I liked, and could role play.  I gave him a very formal personality so that he could pose as some noble from the area, which could be good or bad.  He was armed

Reasons for Nursing

I chose nursing as a major for many reasons other than it is a very successful field to choose.  Most hospitals are short on staff, as my sister says, so finding a job as a nurse if not the hardest thing to do.  Also starting salaries can also be ridiculously high for just beginning your job career.  Other than the static benefits,  the nursing field appeals to me as a person and my skills.  I seem to have a knack for science ever sense I was in grade school.  The science portion of the ACT was my highest score on the test, and the other around me complained about how hard the science portions were.  It seemed like second nature to me and my science classes seemed really easy to me while most people around me asked me for help or struggled.  I am also a logical person, so learning about the world around me is really fascinating and learning about the body helps me understand myself also.  Chemistry was one of the classes I excelled at and most things that go on in the body involve some

Football Concussions

I was a football player for eight years and I have seen the injuries, the concussions and the brutality of the sport.  During the time of my playing there were intense conversations going on in the world about the safety of football, and one of their main concerns was concussions.  Being A football player at the time I could give less of a crap about getting a concussion, and many of the other players would most likely agree.  Football players do not care if they get injured or if they get a concussion, because they just enjoy the game.  An old coach once said to my team that, a football game is the only time you can legally hit the shit out of someone, so hit em as hard as you can.  These words still have impact on me today and fuel my defense for the sport.  I would hate to see my favorite American sport get banned because someone who has never experienced the glory of football, said it was too dangerous.  I also hope it does not die because parents are too afraid to let their kids h

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jlgxeol3e9c This advertisement takes you down the field as the perspective of a pro football player (ethos) and gives you the feel of the grit and work (pathos) that is put into every second of the game. It starts as a defensive player starting on the line of scrimmage, breaking through and getting a sack, then jumping the linemen to tackle a running-back.  Then it shows a hit against a wide receiver,  and breaking a block from a lead blocker in the snow, to causing a fumble.  Then an offensive player runs the ball down the field where he is stopped near the end-zone and must push through the end-zone. Nike uses the passion and emotion of the game of football (pathos) to sell their product, possibly inspiring people to play or saying that it is possible to play football and make these plays with Nike gear (logos).

Space is Huge

We are a spec in the grand scheme of things, a dust particle in the wind, a single pale blue dot in the universe and even our own galaxy.  The amount of things we have never seen and places we could go is extraordinary.  People have only ever lived on this tiny blue dot we call Earth.  This makes me want humanity to take to the stars and start exploring the many places we have never seen.  What got me thinking about this is the amount of progress that has gone into traveling to Mars.  With new technology, it could be possible to get to Mars in about a week.  This is groundbreaking stuff and makes me hopeful for what could be possible in the future.  Could we try to reach other solar systems, possibly discover other life.  Earth has become small and familiar to people and we are overdue for some real exploration and discovery.  Also with the ever growing human population on Earth, we will need some other places to live.  We will also eventually run out of resources on Earth also, so we
